Designs

Problem

Working for Taxdoo, with a growing design team, the growing number of design files and difficulty of finding or following up on previously delivered designs called for a rework of the Figma files to enable the team to work in a clearer and leaner environment.

The goal of this rework was to remove the majority of the painpoints around navigating through the Figma files, to make sure the files contain all the contextual information needed for other stakeholders and designers to easily find more information, to know what designer to contact or to quickly understand what the status of the design ticket/epic is.

To make these files as easy as possible to start and maintain for the design Team, I created a "copy" link, so that designers just had to click a link that would directly create a copy of the file template. All that the Designer needs to do is to move the Figma file to the appropriate folder (depending on product vertical) and to edit the Thumbnail component with the relevant information.

Thumbnail component

To make these files as easy as possible to start and maintain for the design Team, I created a "copy" link, so that designers just had to click a link that would directly create a copy of the file template. All that the Designer needs to do is to move the Figma file to the appropriate folder (depending on product vertical) and to edit the Thumbnail component with the relevant information.

For the thumbnails, colours allow designer to clearly identify what the design file is for. Blue for regular design files, purple for library files (design system, templates etc.) and orange for "playground" files (for experimentations, tests or research). The thumbnail contains the title of the file and a subtitle for bigger projects, epics or product verticals.

The thumbnail footer component offers different component properties for the designers. The designer can apply their name, link the ticket/epic number, indicate the proper product vertical relevant and the status of the file.

File template

The file itself is organised with multiple pages, separating hi-fidelity designs from wireframes and prototypes for example

For a faster start for designer, the file template already comes with our page templates to help designer start their hi-fidelity designs directly in our componented templates.
The wireframe page also offers some very basic wireframing toolkit.
